Chinese Coffee
Starbucks, McDonald's, and a host of other coffee shop chains are trying to get China addicted to coffee. If China falls in love with something then there is serious money to be made. Yesterday I was asked by one of the house parents if I liked coffee. I replied in the affirmative. She then went into her room to get the bag of coffee grounds she was given by an American. She gave it to me because she said coffee is “不好喝” (not good to drink). I thanked her for the gift. Throughout the ensuing conversation I discovered exactly why she thought coffee was not good to drink. I asked if she added sugar, she said no. I asked her if she added milk, she said no. She said all that she did was put hot water in a cup and stir in the grounds. She then pretended like she was drinking and followed it with a cough, cough, cough. It's no wonder she doesn't like coffee.
