Thanksgiving for 200 - That's a lot of Turkey
The Friday before the students scattered all over the country for Thanksgiving break we had an International Friends Thanksgiving Dinner. We had to cap the registrations at 150 students, and with the 50 volunteers that were required to make the evening excellent we served turkey, stuffing, sweet potato, green bean casserole, sweet tea, and pecan and pumpkin pie to 200 people! A huge thanks goes out to Calvary Chapel of Chapel Hill for providing the food, LifeCity of Raleigh for providing dessert, and a host of others who were servers, table hosts, table and chair lenders, etc.
You may not realize, if you have not travelled abroad much, that Thanksgiving is an American holiday which is not celebrated by any other country. Internationals are very curious to learn about the traditions and history of American Thanksgiving. After dinner we had a short play which explained a bit of the history of Thanksgiving. Here it is:
