New Experiences

We had time to kill today as one of our vehicles was being fixed in the shop (I have a strange feeling that this will not be the last we have time to kill while waiting for a vehicle to be repaired), so we took the kids to a local park. The weather was perfect and we found a beautiful park in Johnson City, TN. The best part of the day was teaching kids some of small joys in life which they had never previously experienced. The first thing the kids noticed was the swing set. Swinging is not something that just comes naturally, so we had to teach them how - most of them picked it up right away and they enjoyed it thoroughly.

The park was on the river and as we were walking along the river I saw a flat pebble and picked it up and skipped it on four bounces across the lake. The kids had never seen this apparent suspension of the laws of nature. About half of them figured it out and proceeded to skip rocks for 30 minutes. My arm was sore.
