Military Museum
I was told that in China's long history, they have never launched a military invasion. I have not taken the time yet to verify or disprove this statement. However, the fact remains, that China has a very involved and fascinating military history. This makes a trip to the Military Museum a must for anyone visiting Beijing (and the admission was free - which is an added bonus). The museum has very little English information on its displays which would make any learning at the museum difficult, which is why we brought with us our own personal tour guide. Brandon is a good Chinese friend of ours who took us to the museum to not just translate the signs, but he also gave us myriad information that was not to be found on any signs. Brandon is a very informed Chinese man, and he loves military history, and he has learned much from non-chinese sources, which makes him the perfect guide. Another thing that makes him a perfect guide is that his wife enjoys shopping, so her and Chyloe went shopping while the boys went to look at tanks and guns and swords. An interesting dialogue from the tour:
Keegan: What is this part of the plane for Daddy?
Jared: That part protects the pilot from the bad guys.
Brandon: In war there are no good guys and bad guys, only one country against another.
Jared: (thinking to myself) That's an interesting Chinese take on war.
Brandon: (as if he was reading my thoughts) Because in that war (the Korean War) - that would mean that you were the bad guys.
